"Carol's Family Story: when Jess and Aunt Emma separated, they were all living up around Garden City in Glasscock County, TX. That is where both Carol and his older brother, L.D., were born. Uncle Jess left and went to Arizona. Aunt Emma ( Emma Lee Owens), remarried to ??? Ayers. The boys seemed to keep in touch with Aunt Emma and she signed the affidavit on L.D.'s birth certificate. As far as they know, Jess died in Arizona".

Big Spring Emma Ayers, 81, of Big Spring, died at 7 a.m., Friday in a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the 11th & Birdwell Lane Church of Christ. Eugene Cardinal will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Memorial Park, directed by Nalley-Pickle Funeral Home. Born Jan 18, 1896, in Henderson County, she had lived in this area since 1927. Mrs. Ayers was a member of the 11th & Birdwell Lane Church of Christ. Survivors include four daughters, Nina Reed and Doris Griffis, both of Big Spring, Willadean Cipriani of Riverside, Calif., and Eunice Germany of Blythe, Calif.; a son, Lawrence Brummett of Anaheim, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Owen of Athens, Tex. and William Owen of McGregor, Tex.; and a sister, Katie Tumlin of Hico. A daughter, Buna B. Smith, died April 11, 1977.
